About Us

Elizabeth Phillips Rare Books was established in 1982. We specialize in modern illustrated books and related works of art by internationally known artists. Our inventory ranges from the livre de peintre to contemporary illustrated editions, and includes fine bindings, photographically illustrated books, illustrated children's books, Russian avant-garde, Dada, and Surrealist editions.

Elizabeth Phillips received a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship in 1980-81 to study the livre de peintre in Europe. The business was created shortly after her return to the United States.

In 1993 she co-curated the exhibition "The American Livre de Peintre" at the Grolier Club in New York with colleague Tony Zwicker. Together they authored the illustrated exhibition catalogue of the same title.

In 1996 Elizabeth Phillips was featured in New York magazine's annual guide to the best of the city's services and shopping, "The Best of New York", as one of the best places to buy rare artists' books.

Her clients include private collectors in the United States and abroad, as well as institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art, NY, The Beinecke Library, The New York Public Library, The Library of Congress, The Getty Center, and the Bibliotheque Nationale. She represents clients at international sales and consults on collection development.
