Illustrated blue paper wrappers by József Hanák. 45, [3] p. 22 x 16 cm. A book of poetry by Ern Tamás (1892–1955), a Hungarian poet, journalist, and pub- licist. At the head of the poem “Merengés” (“Meditation”) on p. 43 is a lithographed hand-drawn staff with the first two measures of the tune for the poem, the first with an F major signature in 3/8 time, and the second with a B-flat major signature in 6/8 time. József Hanák (1903–45) was a noted Hungarian modernist who worked initially in Nagybánya before relocating to Paris in 1925, where he worked as a graphic artist for the Pesti Hirlap. As a painter he is chiefly known for his figurative work.
