A play in five acts by Linards Laicens (1883–1938), a major Latvian writer, poet and playwright and a central figure in the Latvian avant-garde. He was the editor of many leftist and avant-garde journals, including Trib ne. He was also a social critic and political activist and was imprisoned several times in Latvia for insurrection and sedition. In 1932 he fled to the Soviet Union where he was executed during the Great Purge in 1938 along with many other important Latvian émigrés. The present work is part of a cycle of dramas and novels exploring the use of mass agitation. Unattributed cover design, probably by Janis Liepins.
